Last week, WayfinderWoman had the pleasure of attending the Tuesday Café at Langney Community Centre to meet local residents, raise awareness of our services, and learn more about the strengths and needs of the community.
During our visit, we were introduced to the Community Fridge and Scrap Store and enjoyed spending time chatting with attendees about their experiences, interests, and the support available locally. It was heartwarming to hear how volunteers at the Scrap Store have gone on to lead workshops themselves. Their journeys demonstrate the positive impact that community opportunities can have, helping people build confidence, develop new skills, and take on leadership roles within their community.
It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with people, in an informal and welcoming environment.
One of the things that stood out most was the strong sense of community that the café provides. The space offers a valuable opportunity for people to come together, build friendships, share experiences, and access support. Many of the people we spoke to highlighted how important these connections are, particularly for those who may otherwise feel isolated.
Our conversations gave us valuable insight into some of the challenges people in the local area face, including confidence, wellbeing, health issues, and barriers to employment. We also heard about the positive impact that community initiatives and peer support can have in helping people feel connected, supported, and empowered.
It was lovely to meet so many friendly and welcoming people and we were pleased to make new connections with local organisations, volunteers, and community groups. These conversations help us better understand the needs of local women and identify opportunities to work alongside other services to strengthen support networks.
A particular theme from the day was the importance of accessible, community-based support and trusted relationships. We were encouraged by how many people were willing to share their experiences and engage in conversations about wellbeing, connection, and support.
